Refugee Hope Partner’s ESL program seeks to help our friends at Cedar Point thrive by providing multi-level English instruction covering a broad range of aptitude. Our goal is to make each student proficient in conversation, reading, and writing so as to be able to communicate well in everyday life situations. We also seek to provide our students with the skills necessary to navigate our American way of life.
In the few years that the Lord has worked through ESL, we have seen much fruit. Our students are becoming more confident in their communication skills, our relationships with families have grown, and opportunities to share the love of Christ are more and more abundant. Our students love to come to class and God seems pleased to use us to magnify His name. We would love to have you join our team!
We offer two programs to our community. One is a women-only class that meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:15-11:15. This program also includes childcare. The other is an evening class for both men and women meeting Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00. No childcare is offered for the evening program.
Our semesters run for approximately 13 weeks each, 3 times a year: fall, spring, and summer. There is no need to commit to all three sessions, but doing so truly allows us to provide greater consistency for our students.
Ways to be involved in Adult ESL
Child Care - One of our greatest needs is for childcare volunteers. We seek to provide a structured, safe environment for the children of our students so that moms can concentrate on learning English knowing their children are being well taken care of.
Lead Teachers - We are also seeking volunteers who are available at least one day a week, preferably two, to provide English instruction to a small group of students. Lead teachers would be responsible for creating a lesson plan and implementing that plan for their students.
Assistant teachers -We are also seeking volunteers who are available at least one day a week, preferably two, who would be instrumental in helping lead teachers and students in the learning process.
