Summer 2019 Interns : Laura and Ellie

Refugee Hope Partners seeks to love our refugee neighbors with the hope of the Gospel. God has provided so many ways for us to do this at Cedar Point Apartments, but we could not do it without the help of volunteers that give of their time, talent, and treasure. This summer we have had the privilege of working with four young ladies that participated in our internship program. These ladies have worked hard and loved much.

Laura is a Senior pursuing a degree in Business and Bible at Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. Laura’s family has been no stranger to Refugee Hope Partners as her mom is our Medical Ministry Coordinator. We love to see whole families getting involved in our ministry! Laura has been able to help us connect with churches and organize donations for our back to school sale that will supply around 200 students with the things they will need to succeed in the coming school year. She has also been a huge help with our ESL kids club this summer. A noteworthy moment from her summer was the first time a child recognized her and ran to give her a hug. When asked what God has taught her this summer, Laura said: “God has taught me so much about the sacrifice and intentionality required to do full-time ministry. He has shown me the vast array of needs within refugee ministries and the unique gifts and passions that can be used in that context.”

Ellie is homeschooled and will be in 10th grade this fall. She learned about Refugee Hope Partners through a missions festival at Providence Baptist Church. She immediately saw the need and was excited to be part of meeting that need through being an intern. Moments that have meant a lot to Ellie have been seeing the kids learn, whether that’s helping our newcomers learn English, helping others read, or helping during pool time. During her time, God has shown her that there is a big group of people that need the love of Jesus.

We are so thankful for these ladies giving of their time and talent this summer. If you or someone you know is interested in our internships, click here.
