Summer Update - July 1

Week 3 of our summer program is behind us.  We will take a break during the week of July 3, and resume on July 10.  We are thankful to the many who have volunteered for Read and Swim (R&S). We have been able to provide one-on-one reading instruction to our students every day. What a blessing!

Our new younger kids' swim time has been a big hit!  Our ministry team member Sarah Beth Sickling is also serving as the Aquatics Director at New Life Camp this summer.  In addition to supervising the pool and managing lifeguards, she is also teaching swimming lessons to our students.  We have also added two reading intensive programs this summer.  One is for our most academically at-risk high school students and the other is for several middle school students just learning to read for the first time.

Marian Wilkinson and Kimberlee Baas of Imago Dei Church started a 3 day/week summer ESL class for the women of Cedar Point in June  Teachers lead three different leveled groups and childcare is provided for the preschool aged children.

Imago Dei Church is also running an onsite VBS program on Fridays at the same time as the women's ESL class.  Christ Covenant Church is hosting two Backyard Bible Clubs this summer in the ministry apartment.  There is A LOT going on this summer at Cedar Point!  We are excited to see local churches working together in proclaiming the Gospel in this community.

This past week, 11 students from Cedar Point attended Day Camp at New Life Camp.  Two rising ninth graders served as Leaders-in-Training.  This upcoming week, 4 middle school students will attend Middle School Overnight Camp at NLC.

We are thankful to be living life in this community that we love so much! Just wanted to share a snapshot of our past week.
